Arsenal eyeing Miguel Gutierrez who’s being compared to Marcelo

Arsenal

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are monitoring Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez. The Gunners are just one of the many clubs keeping an eye on the the 22-year-old. Fabrizio took to X (previously Twitter) to claim that Arsenal have sent their scouts to monitor the Spaniard.

Miguel Gutierrez has so far been a key player for Girona who are currently pressing above their weight in La Liga.

Gutierrez’s release clause is worth £35 million and his current contract runs until 2027, as per Sportskeeda.

Arsenal need a left-back

Arsenal have Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu currently to play at left-back. Both are versatile players, the former also plays in midfield and the later is primarily a right-back.

While both are pretty good options, bringing in a natural left-back would only bolster the squad. Arsenal have done well so far this season, but with the January transfer window approaching, there’s always scope to improve the squad.

Miguel Gutierrez has a style of play similar to Marcelo

Gutierrez could be a great option for the Gunners. At just 22 years of age, he has already made 48 appearances for Girona, and 10 competitive senior appearances for Real Madrid.

The Spaniard is a very attacking full-back which has earned him comparisons to Real Madrid legend Marcelo. It was Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig who claimed that his style of play is similar to that of Marcelo. Last year, he told AS – via OneFootball – about his style of play: “I always want to attack and (hope) that the team is offensive.”

Miguel Gutierrez came through Los Blancos’ academy and made 10 senior appearances for them before joining Girona for €4 million in 2022. The fact that The Spanish giants still hold a 50 percent sell-on clause in his contract is testament to his quality and potential.

Years ago, Spain Under-17 coach David Gordo made a prediction that is on the track to be proven accurate. “If they give him (Gutierrez) minutes and he plays games, he will be a top left-back,” he told AS. “He has the characteristics of the perfect left-back for Real Madrid, he is a Primera-level player, for sure. He has quality, ability to get forward, a nice strike, he is ambitious and he has a winning mentality… very bright future.”

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane has previously described Gutierrez’s talents as “phenomenal”, as per 90Min.
