Journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal players and coaching staff were blown away by Jurrien Timber before he suffered his injury.
Arsenal have had a good season so far, but have also had a more than fair share of injuries. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey are all currently sidelined. Even Martin Odegaard has missed a couple of matches due to an injury. But Jurrien Timber’s injury might just be the most agonizing of them all.
People at Arsenal were ‘blown away’ by Timber
David Ornstein revealed that Timber impressed everyone at Arsenal in the preseason before getting injured. “The Jurrien Timber injury was a huge setback. He had blown away staff and team-mates, and it’s a massive loss.” These were his exact words that he wrote in his Q&A on The Athletic.
Arsenal signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax in the summer for £38 million. He managed to make an instant impact, becoming a fan-favourite during the preseason itself. The Dutch full-back had an incredible preseason, topping it off with an excellent performance in their win over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
It looked obvious that he’d start in the first Premier League game and that’s exactly what happened. However, he just lasted for 50 minutes. The 22-year-old suffered an ACL injury which has sidelined him until next year.
Jurrien Timber has been a huge miss for Arsenal
Timber was just amazing in preseason. Despite being a right-back, he even impressed when played as a left-back. He was so good at left-back that many expected him to start at left-back over Zinchenko, given that Ben White had an impressive season at right-back last time around.
Arsenal fans were devastated when it was confirmed that Jurrien Timber would be out for months. He could’ve been a real asset for them, but sadly, his injury ruined everything.
Jurrien Timber is expected to return in January 2024.
