Fabrizio Romano claims that Douglas Luiz is Arsenal’s top transfer priority.
At this moment, Arsenal are just contenders to win the Premier League, but they need another push. They need to be active in the January transfer window and make the right additions if the want to go one step further.
So far, the Gunners have been most strongly linked with Ivan Toney. It also makes quiet the sense because Gabriel Jesus is struggling with injury. Some journalists claim that they expect Toney to join the Gunners this summer.
However, Fabrizio Romano claims the Brazilian to be their top priority.
People at Arsenal really appreciate him
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano claims that the top name on Arsenal’s list right now is Douglas Luiz. He further claimed that those within the club think that the 25-year-old could be the perfect midfield addition.
Romano shared: “The top name, from what I’m hearing on Arsenal’s list is Douglas Luiz. The player was already on the list two years ago. Edu and others at the club really appreciate him. Douglas Luiz is considered the perfect midfielder by people at Arsenal. They would love to sign him and return on Douglas Luiz. Only a crazy, huge, important proposal could be considered in January. If Arsenal want to go for their top target in January, they’ll need to invest a lot of money,”
Douglas Luiz might be exactly what Arsenal need
Douglas Luiz could be exactly what Arsenal need in the second-half of this season.
They’ve struggled in midfield all season and haven’t been able to replace Granit Xhaka. Kai Havertz and Jorginho haven’t lived up to their expectations. Odegaard’s absence has certainly put a spotlight on Arsenal’s midfield problems.
Luiz could be the perfect replacement for Xhaka. He would bring that tenacity, attacking intent and great technique that the Swiss midfielder used to.
But of course, getting the Brazilian out of Aston Villa won’t be easy. Unai Emery surely won’t do his former side any favours. However, this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on heading into the January window.
