Arteta called up Miguel Azeez – Arsenal’s own Busquets

Ahead of the clash against Burnley in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta called up Miguel Azeez to the first-team training.

Arsenal were dealt a blow when it was revealed that Thomas Partey had undergone a ‘procedure’ on his thigh. The Athletic revealed that the 30 year old would be sidelined for the remainder of 2023.

With the transfer window still a couple of months away, Arteta may have to look for a solution internally. That’s where 21-year-old Miguel Azeez comes in, with his Busquets-like playing style.

Azeez draws comparisons with Sergio Busquets

Miguel Azeez is a defensive midfielder by trade. He is fantastic on the ball, is extremely composed and has the quality to score from distance. These qualities led to comparisons to Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets.

The youngster also admitted a few years ago that he really looks up to Busquets and aims to become like him one day.

Miguel Azeez has struggled to live up to his potential

In his teen years at Arsenal, Azeez was seen as a superstar in the making. However, the transition from youth football to the senior level has been very challenging for him so far.

Azeez majorly plays for the Arsenal youth teams. He has only made one appearance for the Arsenal first team, coming on as a substitute in a Europa League game in 2020. Since then he has gone out on loan three times but has failed to make an impression.

In the 21/22 season, he joined Portsmouth on loan but was recalled after just 4 months and making just 10 appearances. He joined Ibiza in Spain for the 22-23 season but couldn’t make a mark, managing just 667 minutes over 11 games in half a season. But his most disappointing loan spell was his loan to Wigan Athletic in the second half of last season. There he managed to make just 2 appearances and amassed a grand total of 104 minutes of gametime!

Miguel Azeez has failed to live up to his expectations but if Arteta has called him to the first-team training, he must’ve seen something.
