Last week, Calciomercato.it claimed that Tottenham had identified Victor Osimhen as an alternative to Ivan Toney. However, The Daily Mail have now claimed that Chelsea is the most likely destination for Osimhen.
The report from the Italian outlet
The report from Calciomercato.it stated that the Nigerian striker is in the sights of many top European clubs. Some of these clubs could even make a ‘decisive assault’ on the striker in January.
It was explained that the 24-year-old’s contract is running out in 2025. And with Napoli failing to make progress in their talks over a new contract, the Italian club could put Victor Osimhen up for sale and try to capitalize on his high demand in the market.
The outlet asserted that the reigning Serie A champions would demand a staggering €120 million (£105 million) for the star striker. They alleged that this fee would be ‘within reach’ for Spurs.
Chelsea are the favourites to sign Victor Osimhen
The Daily Mail have now talked up the chances of the Nigerian leaving Napoli in January. They suggested that the striker could be Premier League-bound.
It is believed that Victor’s relationship with Napoli has soured. He had rejected advances last summer but he might now decide to leave in the winter transfer window.
The Mail, however, made no mention of Tottenham as a possible destination for the number 9. They instead named Manchester United and Chelsea as the leading contenders to obtain the signature of Osimhen. The outlet adds that if the striker does leave Naples, the Stamford Bridge is his ‘most likely destination’.
Whatever the situation, I cannot see Napoli sell Osimhen for below £100 million in January. This could very much be enough to rule out Spurs as possible suiters for the star striker. Even if Spurs could afford the transfer fee, we know that they do not operate in such price ranges.
