After turning 18 on the 10th of November, Jamaican striker Dujuan Richards is now eligible to join Chelsea. Reportedly, he will join the squad immediately. According to The Secret Scout, he will be eligible to play for the Blues straightaway.
His deal was agreed in the previous transfer window, but as per a clause in his contract, he would only join the club after his 18th birthday.
Chelsea need players who can play up front
Dujuan Richards is primarily a striker, but he can play anywhere across the front line.
Up front is definitely an area Chelsea are looking to strengthen. They’ll likely make an effort to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
Right now Ivan Toney looks to be the favourite if the Blues are to sign a striker. However, Brentford reportedly value him at around £100 million, which Chelsea think is too much.
Another player on Chelsea’s radar is Victor Osimhen. He has had a few issues with his current club Napoli this season. Chelsea would have to breach their club-record fee if they want to sign Osimhen. That would be quiet tricky after already have done that for Mudryk, Enzo and Caicedo over the last year.
Dujuan Richards joins Chelsea squad
While a youngster may not be what Mauricio Pochettino is hoping for, he wouldn’t say no to having another option.
Even with the addition of Richards, Pochettino will most likely continue to keep faith in Nicolas Jackson, especially after his hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur.
The manager will definitely need all the backup he can get because Jackson will likely leave the squad to represent his country in the African Cup of Nations, scheduled in January-February.
It would be interesting to see if Chelsea put faith in teenager Dujuan Richards, or make a signing in January.
