According to journalist Eduardo Inda, not everything is rosy between Pep Guardiola and his star striker Erling Haaland.
The journalist from Bernabeu Digital claimed that Haaland was not happy with some comments that Pep made. Before the Ballon d’Or gala in October, Pep made a few comments about Messi that Haaland supposedly didn’t like.
“His worst season is the best of most players”
Erling Haaland helped Manchester City win the treble, scoring 52 goals in all competitions. Lionel Messi on the other hand, led Argentina to a World Cup title.
In the build-up to the award ceremony, Guardiola made it clear that Messi was better than the other players in the world, suggesting that he should win the Ballon d’Or (Sky Sports). Inda has claimed that Haaland was not happy with that.
The reporter said, as transcribed by SportWitness: “Pep grandly praised Messi, saying that his worst season coincided with the best of Haaland.”
“(He) praised both of them, but he put in that phrase and Haaland was not amused. There is a certain distance from the coach. The relationship is not in a good moment. What you have to say is that the Ballon d’Or has to go to your star and not Leo Messi.”
Fans shouldn’t worry about this Haaland and Pep issue
Personally, I don’t think there’s any reason for City fans to be worried. Only one source in Spain reported all of this. No other major news outlet has made any similar claims.
Also, I personally think that Haaland is mature enough to understand what his manager meant when he said those things about Leo Messi. I’m sure that the Norwegian also acknowledges Messi’s greatness. Even he must’ve taken the comparison with Messi as a compliment rather than getting angry and being unhappy.
