Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli was on fire in the game against Sevilla at home in the Champions League. The Gunners were dominant throughout the match and didn’t give Sevilla any chance of a comeback. 22-year-old winger, Gabriel Martinelli, was a constant threat for the Spanish side.
Gabriel came up against Sevilla’s Juanlu Sanchez and just dominated him all match long. The Brazilian’s pace was just too much for Juanlu to handle. He was just incredible.
Arsenal winger Martinelli was just unstoppable
The Arsenal star completed eight dribbles against Juanlu alone. To put it into context, no defender has been beaten more times in a Champions League game during the last eight seasons.
Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo published their player ratings for Sevilla after the game, and Martinelli was mentioned on multiple occasions. He was first mentioned in Juanlu’s review, whom they rated 2/10. ED wrote in his review: “Suffering with Gabriel Martinelli throughout the game. He could not stop the Brazilian winger at any time. A match to forget.”
Martinelli was then mentioned in center-back Loic Balde’s review. Giving him a 4/10 rating, they wrote: “Pay attention to the cut and assist Juanlu Sánchez on the right wing due to Martinelli’s continuous attacks. He tried to impose himself by showing strength but it was insufficient.”
Sevilla manager Diego Alonso’s 1/10 rating also featured Martinelli.
Martinelli fit and back to his best
Gabriel struggled with injuries early on in the season. He missed five games because of a hamstring issue. Even though he scored the winner on his return against Manchester City, he wasn’t at his best in the following matches.
But luckily for Arsenal, Martinelli seems to have picked up his form now. He was absolutely sensational against Juanlu and Sevilla at the Emirates.
If the Brazilian can replicate the same form against Premier League full-backs, then it would be game on for Arsenal in the title race.
