The Netherlands hope Jurrien Timber to be fit for Euros

According to Algemeen Dagblad (AD), the Netherlands are keeping a close eye on Jurrien Timber. The Netherlands are hoping he gets fit until the Euros next year.

The defender who signed for Arsenal in the summer, ruptured his ligament in the very first game of the season. This injury ruled him out until next year’s preseason. At the moment, he is expected to return just after the Euros, which are scheduled for June-July 2024.

Netherlands have already made a shortlist and Timber makes the cut

The AD says that Netherlands have shortlisted fewer than 40 players who’ll be on contention to be selected in Koeman’s squad for the Euro 2024, and Timber might be one of them.

The 40 spots are currently being held open for those without much of a chance and Timber is one of them. They say that his name is ‘written very lightly in pencil’ at the moment.

The 22 year old was ‘always a certainty’ for the Dutch side. His injury was a greater blow to them than it was for Arsenal. Hence the Dutch are keeping hope that he will be available next summer.

The Dutch’s hope of having Timber look grim

According to AD, the ‘realistic scenario’ seems to be that Arsenal will decide what happens with the player at some point next year. Unfortunately for Netherlands, the expectation is that Timber will only be allowed to join in preseason training at best.

They then state ‘you never know’, indicating that there is some hope in the national set up that he may be available before then.

Realistically though, that doesn’t seem likely. However, the squad is yet to be decided and plenty of time is left until it has to be. Right now, it seems Koeman and his team have Timber down on the list, albeit in pencil rather than pen.
