In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Liverpool’s star defender Virgil van Dijk couldn’t help but commend his teammate, Diogo Jota.
Van Dijk was tasked with assembling the ultimate Premier League player, and he didn’t hesitate to laud Jota for his prowess in the air. The Dutchman confidently stated.
“The head I will pick, Diogo Jota. He can head the ball.”
Crucial Role at Liverpool for Diogo Jota
The Portuguese international forward, has made a significant impact in the Premier League, amassing 147 appearances throughout his career. Within these matches, he has notched an impressive 48 goals also providing 14 assists. Eight of those goals being headers. Further showcasing his versatility in attack.
Despite recent injury setbacks, the team highly regards the contributions of the 26-year-old. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp now boasts a plethora of attacking options, making competition fierce. Nevertheless, Jota remains an integral part of Liverpool’s plans.
Jota earns a weekly wage of £140,000. He has made two starts and two substitute appearances for Liverpool this season, notching a goal in the process. His performances last season, with seven goals and four assists in 12 starts and 10 substitute appearances, underline his significance to the team.
Dream Teammate: Bernardo Silva
In a recent YouTube interview, Diogo Jota was asked to name his dream teammate at Anfield. He didn’t hesitate to choose his Portuguese compatriot, Bernardo Silva, from Manchester City. Jota’s admiration for Silva’s football intelligence and ball control was also evident as he stated,
“Bernardo Silva, for me. For sure, he is probably one of the most intelligent football guys I have known.”
Although, Silva’s adaptability to various positions, including the flanks and central attacking midfield, would have provided Liverpool with added technical ability, creativity, flair, and goal-scoring prowess. Furthermore, Klopp’s preference for technically gifted players with a strong work ethic aligns perfectly with Silva’s attributes, making him an ideal fit for the Reds.
However, Jota’s dream partnership with Silva and the chances of the Manchester City maestro transferring to Liverpool remain slim. Silva has been instrumental in Pep Guardiola’s setup at Manchester City and played a pivotal role in their recent successes.
